Easy Reader Handcrafted Book Covers were born as the result of the tragic death of my 18 year old daughter Kali Marie.
It was a beautiful spring day on April 25, 2004 and Kali and her friends were at Golden Gardens park located in north Seattle. This park is a 3 level park (beach, parking, dog park). Kali and her friends decided to go from the beach to the dog park by way of a man made path that crossed over the railroad tracks (the easiest way to get to where they wanted to go, not necessarily the safest). There was a northbound train parked on the tracks and as they turned to go back to the beach Kali was hit and killed instantly by a southbound Amtrak passenger train. Unfortunately they did not see the oncoming train as this particular area is on a curve. Kali was only one in a long list of those killed or injured on this one-mile stretch of tracks. I've personally found statistics on 11 deaths and 1 injury from 1993 to 2004. There are also more incidents prior to the statistics currently on file. Since this tragic event Operation Lifesaver aquired a grant and had fencing installed. To date no one else has been killed there.
In order to retain my sanity and stay busy I developed Easy Reader Handcrafted Book Covers. Each and every one of the book covers that I make are a memorial to my daughter Kali Marie who is missed each and every day.
